Prior to joining Findley-Wolf Law in 2025, Sam supervised felony level public defenders for the King County Department of Public Defense. Sam has presented numerous trainings for lawyers on challenging predicate convictions, defending sex cases, challenging sex offender registration and the particulars of criminal trial practice. At the Department of Public Defense, Sam was known for his knowledge of the law and his creativity in defending clients.
Before becoming a supervisor, Sam worked as a public defender and tried over 40 felony cases to verdict, including sex and serious violent cases. Sam’s most notable wins included the Court of Appeals holding that the Sex Offender Registration law in Washington was unconstitutional as applied to out of state offenders, State v. Batson, 9 Wn. App. 2d 546, 447 P.3d 202 (2019) and acquittals in his last two felony trials before becoming a supervisor, involving rape and first degree assault, respectively.
Sam has also successfully petitioned the Washington Supreme Court for review in a direct appeal and argued before the Washington Supreme Court in State v. Haggard, 195 Wn.2d 544, 461 P.3d 1159 (2020).
